community easter eggs: #4 Gravity
There actually is a “Gravity” fan video on the web. The Jeff/Annie and Abed/Pierce sequences with the Sara Bareilles song was an homage to video posted by VeritasProductions on Youtube. When the video was made, only 9 episodes had aired, and Dan said that it was the first ship video he ever saw and that that was when he realised that “the show was being watched by anybody”. Many fans thought Dan was mocking the Jeff/Annie ship with it, but he said on the DVD commentaries that the joke is “that these wonderful ‘girls’, who love these characters so much, are at the mercy of my asshole self doing this show about robots and hot dogs”. Dan also said that he paid nearly US$ 35,000 of his own pocket to buy the rights of “Gravity” because the show’s music budget was not enough. You can watch it here.
